Today, we spoke with Katie Holland, the founder of Magnolia Rouge.
Where do you live and work? Aukland, New Zealand.
When did you start your blog? 2009.
What inspired you to launch Magnolia Rouge? Initially, I launched the blog to showcase my stationery work and to share my design inspiration. But it wasn't long before I began featuring real weddings from my home country of New Zealand and across the globe. Tell us more about your shift from a stationery-focused brand to a larger wedding inspiration site. When I first got started, New Zealand didn't have many -- if any -- wedding blogs! Once I decided to expand the blog beyond stationery, I began building friendships with international bloggers and then started reaching out to vendors worldwide, and it quickly grew from there.
Launching the Magnolia Rouge magazine brought us to a whole other level, and it gave me the opportunity to feature work from some of the world's best wedding photographers. I headed down the photography path myself for a while, so beautiful photography is certainly a driving force for me.
What type of wedding style best describes the Magnolia Rouge bride? Organic, rustic, natural, laid-back, and relaxed. Typically a farmhouse or barn-style wedding.
How do you choose content for your magazine? My decision making is quite instinctive -- I'll know pretty quickly if a wedding is a good fit or not. Again, it comes back to my love of photography and design. Honestly, my biggest issue is accepting features too early on and then getting more amazing submissions and not being able to fit them all in!
Do you have a favorite wedding or issue? Every time I put out a new issue, I think it's my favorite! There are two specific weddings in Issue 3 that are real standouts -- one by Eric Kelley and the other by a New Zealand photographer named Jessica Sim.
How do New Zealand weddings differ from weddings in the US or UK?  New Zealand weddings are usually very relaxed affairs, and more often than not, the ceremonies are outdoors. They aren't as large as US weddings, and the bridal parties rarely exceed more than 3-4 on each side. With so many people having guests travel from around the world, weekend celebrations are getting increasingly popular -- so weddings tend to start on Friday night and Sundays are full of 'after match' functions.
What inspires you? Nature in all its glory. All the patterns and stunning landscapes that surround us in the outdoors, traveling, and exploring the world inspire my work.
Favorite style of party: Anything outdoors! I love a party in a field, under a tree, or at a barn or farm.
Favorite wedding trend for 2014: Natural organic arbors.

Long Veil or Short Veil: Long veil.

Diamond or Alternative Stone: Alternative stone.
