With the Kentucky Derby right around the corner, we have mint juleps on our minds! This quintessential Southern drink is made with bourbon, sugar, mint, and crushed ice and is traditionally served in a silver or pewter cup. If you know a couple with loads of Southern style, monogrammed mint julep cups (ours are from Things Remembered) and a nice bottle of bourbon make a great wedding gift!

Ingredients

(Makes two mint juleps)
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1-2 bunches of fresh mint
Crushed ice
4 oz. bourbon

Instructions

1. Bring sugar and water to a boil, stirring regularly, until sugar is dissolved (about five minutes).
2. Pour syrup into a heatproof container and add 10-15 mint leaves; cover and refrigerate for at least one hour. Strain mint leaves before using.
3. Chill mint julep cups for 20-30 minutes, allowing a frost to form. Fill cups with crushed ice.
4. Add one tablespoon of mint simple syrup and 2 ounces of bourbon to each cup.
Stir with a spoon and garnish with a sprig of mint.
