How Your Groom Can Rock a White Suit Like Ian Somerhalder

Customize your own event checklist with due dates, personal reminders, and timelines for all your wedding to do’s.
After just nine months of dating (and a speedy four month engagement), Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder tied the knot this past weekend in Santa Monica, California. The much loved on-screen vampires stunned guests in their complimentary all-white ensembles. Nikki walked down the aisle in a beautiful three-quarter sleeve fit-and-flare lace gown with a deep plunging back, while Ian opted for a sleek off-white suit (swoon!).
With Ian following in the footsteps of Solange and Tina Knowles' handsome grooms, who also opted for white on the wedding day, we're kind of wondering if these cream colored suits are the next big thing. If you're on board, we've got a few tips to help your guy pull off the luxe look.
1. Skip the spray tan.
Is your sweetheart afraid that white will have him looking as washed out as a vampire when you say 'I do'? Well, we have some good news: it actually enhances your natural skin tone, making you look more tan than you really are. So, skip the risky sprays and salons and let the suit give you that natural glow.
2. Get shady.
Still a little skeptical about wearing white? Try a different shade, such as alabaster, cream, off-white, or ivory. Many designers offer a wide variety of hues so that grooms can pick the one that is most flattering for their skin tone, and that best matches your gown, of course.
3. Mix and match.
If this is all feeling very "vanilla," try adding touches of other complimentary colors. Pair an off-white suit with a champagne vest for little a bit of contrast. Or throw in a patterned tie for a pop of color (even Ian opted for cornflower blue on the big day!).
4. Make a statement.
At the end of the day, nothing screams power couple more than matching ensembles. So slip on that white suit, wear it well, and before you know it, you just might be the hottest married couple of the year.
